The project day that was held in our school in the name of the Victory Day wasn´t a usual one for our class. Normally, we would go through a set of checkpoints, learning something new at each one. However, this time, we were able to have a checkpoint of our own.

The theme was “The traces of Americans in Pilsen” and our teacher had a brilliant idea how to make this special day even more enjoyable.

We decorated our classroom with the Czech and American flags and bouquets of Lilacs and to really hype things up, we all came dressed in our national colours - red, white and blue. Whenever a new class arrived, we would wave with paper flags and chant the happiness of Pilseners, when they gained freedom from Germany thanks to the American Army. After this short celebration, our main program could begin. We would pair up with our visitors and teach them the Polka dance, just as the Pilseners did in 1945. We danced to traditional Czech songs, three times with each class, our partners getting better and better.

When we finished, we usually still had a lot of time, but ono one was eager to dance more Polka. So, we came up with a solution and taught the students more modern dances that we learned in our dance classes in autumn.

Somehow we ended up doing a human snail (Jede jede mašinka) through the whole building. It was fun and I cannot imagine a more creative way to celebrate freedom. I´m looking forward to being able to organize similar activities in the future.
