On Saturday, September 6th, at 11:45 pm, our school trip to England began. Everyone was excited as we boarded the bus and we started our journey.
Our first big stop was Brussels, in which we arrived around 10:00 am. We saw the Atomium before heading to Bruges, a little town with canals and beautiful old houses. After exploring Bruges, we continued to Calais, where we spent the night in a hotel.
The next morning, we boarded the ferry to England. It was a special moment to see the white cliffs of Dover appear on the horizon. Once we arrived, we had like a four-hour drive to our first stop – the mysterious Stonehenge. Later, we visited Glastonbury Abbey, the ruins of a famous monastery with a mystical atmosphere. After that, we drove through the wild beauty of Dartmoor National Park, where we saw wild horses before reaching Plymouth in the evening. There we met our host families and spent the night with them.
The next morning, we went to Plymouth Aquarium, where we saw sharks, colourful fish and other sea creatures. After a city walk, we travelled to the legendary Tintagel Castle, said to be the birthplace of King Arthur. We also visited the mysterious Merlin’s Cave with the views of the breathtaking sea cliffs. In the evening, we returned to Plymouth and our host families.
On the following day, we visited St. Michael’s Mount, a magical castle on a tidal island. We went first by boat and then by foot on the way back. Then we drove to Land’s End, the most western point of England, where we enjoyed views of the neverending ocean. As a surprise, we also stopped at St. Ives, a lovely, small seaside town with sandy beaches.
On our last day in England, we left early to go to London. There, we enjoyed a boat trip on the Thames, we visited the massive St. Paul’s Cathedral, and explored the Tower of London, where we saw the Crown of the Queen Elisabeth II. After some free time in the city, we went to the bus and started our long journey back to the Czech Republic.
This trip was full of beautiful sceneries, history, monuments, fun moments, and new experiences. We learned a lot about Britain and made memories we will never forget.
