I´ve recently been a part of a lecture about Czech air forces in France and England during the WWII. The lecture was led an independent historian and a high school teacher, who is interested in this topic. His name is PhDr. Daniel Švec.
The lecture took part in our school and it was 90 minutes long. PhDr. Daniel Švec brought a lot of artefacts connected with airplanes, army, and air pilots. He was dressed in a uniform of British an air force officer. The whole lecture was based on personal stories form the times of war and not so much on historic facts. I must say, it was a good idea, because we know a lot about the dates and names form history classes. We saw few short videos with fights and a lot of photos, which were part of a very nice presentation.
Dr. Daniel Švec asked us a few questions. They were not about our knowledge, however, about our opinions. From my point of view, it was a good way to “wake up” all the people in the classroom and make them think more about the topic. In the middle of the lecture, there was a short break. We could look at all the artefacts, ask Dr. Švec any questions or just get a snack.
Even though, I was worried how the lecture would look like, I was very positively surprised. Dr. Švec can talk really engagingly. You can see, that he is deeply interested in this topic and it makes the lecture more unique and interesting. I can highly recommend the lecture with PhDr. Daniel Švec to everyone, even people who are not keen on history, such as me, will enjoy it.
