Yesterday, we had communist day. We started at 8.00 AM. At first stand we were reciting some communist poems. The teachers were really good at acting. They were always saying bad things about capitalistic states on the west. On the second stand we were singing some songs from 60´s and 70´s and 80´s. Songs from communism were really interesting. They weren´t bad but these were mostly songs for some disco or something.

The third stand was about communistic propaganda at schools, work or eve in some homes. Me and my classmates were forced to decorate the class with some posters about communism. Then we were in the gym, we watched Spartakiáda and we saw scenes from some movies. After that we walked up, so we could see police from that era. They were really scary. We were also at stand where we cold try shopping. The shopping was really bad. People back then didn´t even have normal toilet paper. At the end of the day, we were outside to try exercise. And we finished our day at 1.30 PM. It was really fun and we enjoyed it very much.

Yesterday, we had a project day. The theme was about communists. There were a lot of stands. It was great to see how it was in school at that time.

The first stand, was the best. There was Mrs. teacher Poláková and Mrs. teacher Tolletová. They played it really well. In other stands we saw how the people from that time were shopping, working and we saw what kind of clothes they were wearing.

Then we went outside. There we were on field and we tried to find some potatoes. We also learnt about pioneers. And we saw some differences between us and people back then. Now we know communism wasn´t good. And for example, the teachers were very cruel.

The last stand was our teacher Mrs. Babčaníková. She looked angry and cruel. So, the project day was super cool, but the time of communist was not.

Yesterday, we had a project day at school. It was about a communism. It showed us how it was to live in communism and that it is important, because we have to learn from our mistakes not to be dumb and to have a good future.

We could recite some pretty awful poems. They told us something about pionýr. We were shopping in grocery store, but in that time, they had nothing in store and people had to wait at the lines for only bananas.

We were picking up potatoes as fast as we could and then they compared it to the other team and my team won. The teachers then told us that they were away from home for one month (at the weekends they were at home), and they were picking up potatoes for hours, but they said that it wasn´t that boring and it actually sometimes was fun.
Then the teachers showed us the fashion at that time and we learned a disco dance.

It was such a good opportunity to learn new things and it was really eye-opening.

In my opinion, this event was such a good idea. It reminded me to be grateful for everything I have, especially freedom. I loved the fact that we also were wearing old clothes that people in that time used to wear. I borrowed clothes from my grandma and it kind of opened a new topic that I could talk about with her. She told me bunch of stories and brought old photos from her youth and my dad´s childhood.

I also loved the part where we got to see how an interrogation by StB could look like. The decorations around the entire school made me feel the right atmosphere and I absolutely loved it. It wouldn´t be such a nice experience without them. Basically, my favourite checkpoints were those where we could try something out or where we got to see how it actually looked like.

The only negative thing I would have to say is that filling in the blank spaces in texts or just reading the entire time was really boring.

However, it was a really nice event and I appreciate how much work and effort everybody put into this project. I would be very happy if we could have projects like this one more often.

The 17th November is an important day in the history of the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia that time). And that is why the Masaryk Grammar School held this amazing event this Thursday – to honour everything that happened on this day in 1989 and it takes students back in time.

The program was different for every class. Our schedule, for example, started at 10 AM. I was happy about starting so “late”, as I didn´t have to wake up so early. When I first stepped to school, I could feel the atmosphere breathing at me from every corner. Wherever I looked, I found something that reminded me of the Velvet Revolution. The communist flags, posters, statues of the leaders, the teachers dressed up as comrades, the students looking like pioneers – ever I dressed up as one.

During the day we visited many parts of our school where teachers taught us something new. My favourite checkpoint was Mrs. Šedivá and her Spartakiáda or when Mr. Stoček was thrown into a bin.

Overall, I really enjoyed the whole project. I think it is crucial to demonstrate things like this to people who could not experience them.
